Quick Drying
As far as we are concerned, one of the most important features to go for is quick drying paint – especially if you have pets or children that are running around the house! There is nothing worse than spending an age prepping and painting your stove just for it to become covered with dust and dog hairs within half an hour of finishing, or even worse having to extend the job over multiple days with the room out of bounds!

TOP TIP: Even with quick drying paint we would recommend waiting 24/48 hours before using your stove to ensure that the paint is fully dry and sealed! Otherwise you could find that the finish and durability of the paint is affected in the long run!
Application
There is no reason to make a job harder than it needs to be, so it is important to look for the best stove paint that is going to be easy to apply! There are two main types of application that you can go for – standard tinned paint or spray on paint!
Tinned paint is the more traditional option, and providing you choose a smooth, good quality paint and have a good quality brush then you should be able to get a professional finish for your stove. However, this can take time and you can risk having drip marks from the paint if you are new to home renovations.

TOP TIP: If it was up to us then we would suggest that if you are painting your stove BEFORE it is fitted in your home then spray paint is probably the easier and quicker option. However, if you are working on a stove that is already fitted you may be better opting for traditional paint!
Quantity
The quantity of paint that you are going to need really depends on the size of stove that you are working with and the age of the stove (as this will often affect the quality of the material surface that you are working with). This makes it rather difficult for us to advise on the quantity of paint that you are going to need, but we found that most 150ml tins are going to allow you to cover an area of around 10 square feet – so should be enough for a standard size stove.
Remember though that we would always recommend applying two coats of paint – this will help to ensure you achieve a truly professional, quality finish but will also protect the stove from general wear and tear and from the elements if it is an outdoor stove! This may mean that you need to consider purchasing two tins of paint – especially if you are working with a larger stove!

The actual painting of the stove is pretty easy, but it is important to prepare the stove first! Make sure that it is completely cold before you start. Then, sand down and clean the stove so you know the surface is prepared. Once you have masked off the area you are ready to start painting!
Why is my stove smoking after painting?
Don’t panic if you find that your stove is smoking slightly when you use it or the first time after using – this is simply the paint beginning to cure fully. We would recommend having the windows open a little bit and have the room empty of people, as after an hour you will find that the smoke has reduced dramatically. After a couple of times of using the stove you will find that this stops happening.
Do you need to apply a primer before stove paint?
