It’s peace of mind that the DCH273N is powerful enough and durable enough to meet and exceed the toughest demands of even the most high-pressure drilling jobs, whilst still meeting Dewalt’s stringent health and safety criteria concerning the following:

Health & Safety ConcernHow the Dewalt DCH273N fared

Control
The Dewalt DCH273N’s dynamic, innovative torque features help to minimise the risk to the user of any accidental jams.

Vibration
The Dewalt DCH273N’s integrated vibration dampening system allows for the tool to be operated safely for an extended period of time, minimising user fatigue.

Dust
Dewalt’s advanced dust control technology protects the user against potentially harmful dust inhalation, creating a cleaner, safer working environment.

Powering the Dewalt DCH273N

The DCH273N is part of Dewalt’s 18V XR Li-Ion battery platform range, compatible with XR FLEXVOLT batteries, offering longer runtime and greater flexibility – the Dewalt DCH273N aims to offer the power of corded from a cordless tool.

Dewalt UK isn’t backward in coming forward when it comes to singing the praises of the XR Flexvolt battery platform range: “To put this simply, the DEWALT XR FlexVolt range is the next chapter in cordless technology. DEWALT is launching a range of tools that are not just extremely powerful – they will also provide in excess of a full day’s runtime on a single charge for most users. The potential for this technology is limitless: for each and every trade.”

The 18V XR batteries are completely backwards compatible with all 100+ tools in Dewalt’s 18v XR range – brilliant if you own or plan on owning a few products from the series. They’re surprisingly lightweight; have a relatively fast charge time of around 2 hours, and provide at least 3 hours use-time under optimal conditions. It’s efficient, we’ll give it that!

The combination of Dewalt’s 18V XR battery and the DCH273N’s brushless motor has one clear outcome – increased power from less charging. A Dewalt 18V XR battery will set you back around £25 but it’s definitely worth considering investing in two batteries – that way you’ll always have one ready to go as you can use one whilst the other is on charge. You’re looking at around £20-£25 for a basic XR charger.

Pros and Cons

Why we like the Dewalt DCH273N

  • High-speed drilling performance
  • It’s been carefully designed to be as ergonomic as possible – it has top-level vibration control of 6.6m/S² which is a result of the floating gearbox mounted on x4 springs. The chuck and gearbox move back and forth concurrently, absorbing the impact which on a drill with less vibration control, would normally end up transferred to the user.
  • The Dewalt DCH237N has been awarded the Guaranteed Tough® seal of approval by industry professionals.
  • The DCH273N has been awarded Dewalt’s ‘Perform and Protect’ shield.
  • It comes with a built-in belt hook and multi-position side handle.

What we would change

  • It is priced as a more premium product, you do get what you pay for though!
  • We would probably ask that Dewalt could shave a little bit off the weight of the drill.
