The Bosch Multi-Construction Drill Bit Set is designed to work with metal, masonry and wood without the need to change bits.
The bits are completely standard sized and will fit into any drill.
The Bosch Multi-Construction Drill Bit Set is supplied with the following sized bits:
- 1 x 4mm x 50mm (effective working length – 90mm)
- 2 x 5mm x 50mm (effective working length – 100mm)
- 2 x 6mm x 50mm (effective working length – 100mm)
- 1 x 8mm x 50mm (effective working length – 100mm)
- 1 x 10mm x 100mm (effective working length – 150mm)
As these drill bits are multipurpose these can be a real time saver given the right scenario. If you are drilling through plaster into a wooden baton, then directly into masonry then you don’t need to change bits at each step – one of these will do the trick.
The downside that we noticed, especially when drilling into wood is that the resulting hole isn’t as neat as when using a dedicated wood bit – the tip kept drifting until it found a good purchase in the material.
Unfortunately we managed to blunt one of the bits during our testing, but this was our own error rather than a fault with the drill bit set. We drilled into brick at very high speed and managed to overheat the bit causing it to rapidly blunt. When attempting the process at a lower speed the bit sailed through.
Drilling though all materials is slower than when using specialised bits, but this is to be expected given the multipurpose nature of the Bosch set.
Loading the bits is a breeze, the bits themselves are very high quality carbide and slip into the chuck fine with plenty of grip once tightened. We also didn’t notice any slipping of the bits regardless of the material drilled into.
The set is supplied in a plastic case, however its not a robust as we’d like and it might not stand up to too much punishment in the long run – so it may be worth investing in a small tool roll at the same time.
Overall the Bosch Multi-Construction Drill Bit Set is an ideal replacement for many of the cheaper drill sets you get bundled with many combi drills, especially for lighter interior work. In a professional environment, they act as a great “do anything” backup for a dedicated set of wood, masonry or metal – just don’t run them too hot or too fast.
